Re: PATH

In the end, I had one of these built. I've only tinkered with it a little bit but so far I'd say this is the best switch module in the format. Step and CV switching, adjustable length and direction (forward, back, pendulum, random) for step, and S&H for the CV (though I'm torn about whether I'd pref...

welhamc ended up building my Path for me. Really excellent communication, always checking in for my input for the couple of small bumps in the road. Would definitely recommend him. :tu:

while i wait for shapeshifter v2.
Don't hold your breath. They've already said there's no concrete plans for one. jjclark mentioned some ideas he had at one point but none of them were really shapeshifter v2, more like a next-gen FPGA based crazy oscillator thing.

Re: Noise Engineering Mimetic Digitalis

I hardly ever actually program my MD step by step. I slam the shred combos until I get something I like or just wiggle the knob while it's running to get general motions. I use it more often for general CV rather than pitch though.

Ears already has an envelope follower and gate extractor so you don't necessarily need the A-119s.

Yeah, a tiny bit of FM/PM crossmod is good times. Go all in on both and put OSC 2 in LFO mode and then fool around with the sync settings and you can get some completely insane unstable feedback disasters that are great fodder for further processing.

One thing that's not immediately obvious is that when you assign mod b to combo you can crossfade/morph between the different combo modes.

Yeah, shapeshifter is definitely not a wavetable oscillator in the usual sense. Complex oscillator that happens to use wavetables is spot on.

Re: Cables! Noob question

Seconding starthief's recommendation of modular addict. Almost all of my cables are from there - I've got mostly the braided ones but also some of the skinny nazca noodle style cables, and some of the stackables. Never had any problems and the prices are way better than a lot of places. As an altern...

Re: Shapeshifter: I’ve tried so hard

I've always thought it a bit odd that Intellijel, who makes quite a few good videos for their modules, haven't really done any on shapeshifter. The basic tutorial case is covered well by other people, but there aren't really any good videos explaining good patches using shapeshifter. I think videos ...

Re: Starthief's Eurorack adventure, 2016-???

I still do plenty of shape modulation though, you just have to approach it on its own terms. Small changes work well and it does seem to vary by wavetable. For instance the vocal banks have vowel and non-vowel sounds in the same banks so you can get some gross results but you just have to attentuate...

Re: Starthief's Eurorack adventure, 2016-???

Depending on what you like about E352, shapeshifter might not displace that one - you can't replace the wavetables without a ton of hassle, the stock wavetables don't really have any deliberate design to them (in terms of making smooth morphing), and the morphing seems more abrupt than in more speci...

monome ansible for me! kria app controlled with a grid has been most immediate, intuitive and musical sequencer I've come across. It makes the Rene 2 and Usta feel slow and clunky by comparison (I ended up selling both to get a second ansible!). I made a video of a little improvisation to show how ...

Re: Shapeshifter: I’ve tried so hard

I use the mod a phase 2 stuff all the time when using FM. The trick is to turn the attenuator up only a tiny little bit and then you get some cross modulation that livens things up a little bit. I really like the octave down internal sync (int sync flashing). You can go ape then and get some great g...

Re: Hemisphere for Ornament and Crime: Logarhythm Branch

I have a small feature request that I think people will find useful. The voltages app does not use the CV inputs. It would be really nice if it added the selected voltage to the input, so you can use it as a gated precision adder as well as just the offset. That's an interesting idea and the functi...

Re: Starthief's Eurorack adventure, 2016-???

It probably won't give you results quite as elaborate as drezno/jena but I use Compare 2 for rhythm extraction pretty frequently. And at audio rates you can do some fun stereo PWM even without the logic outputs. Not sure if that's what you're looking for though. I have an MSCL before my main output ...

Re: Intellijel Rubicon 2 vs SSF Zero Point Oscillator

So does that mean symmetry is basically just an offset added to the linear FM signal before it goes into the balanced modulator? Yes. On the Rubicon 2 panel: The raw TZFM input signal goes through a linearized 2164 whose gain is determined by the Index setting and input. The amplified (or attenuate...

Sorry about the sarcasm, Bernie, but I must confess that this whole discussion was starting to piss me off a little bit. Also, I found that whole discussion about "what is TZFM" to be very confusing. My understanding of TZFM is much simpler than any of that. Let me explain (although the entire expl...

Re: Help figuring out the 4U Palette puzzle

Do you really need 6 VCAs in a system that small? You could replace the DVCA and the octave shifter with a 1u O_C running hemisphere and get a boatload of utilities (though they're CV oriented, whereas kinks/disting is good for audio too). Disting, uvcf, and mutant brain are 20 hp so if you swapped ...

Re: Stock or Hemisphere Suite for my New Ornament and Crime Module?

IMO, hemisphere (the Logarhythm branch looks great too, but I haven't tried it yet.). Having tons of simple and immediate utilities that you can use 2 at a time is far more useful than any of the apps on the stock firmware. I think the stock is really only worth it if you're really attached to one o...

I'd prefer someone in the US but overseas is ok if the shipping/currency matters won't be too expensive. PM me if you're interested. It seems kinda crazy to me that t...
