Re: looking for interesting sample libraries - favorites?

The libraries and plugins from waves factory are extremely solid. Like someone else mentioned, Sonicouture's Konkrete never gets old. Cinematique Instruments also makes some distinct sounding library.

This was very inspiring to read. I really love when manufacturers express what use cases they're excited for with their instruments. Turning a full blown orchestra into a dark, rich, saturated bass drone I thought could only be done in software but no longer I guess :guinness: :guinness: :guinness: ...

I haven't really meshed with Crusher-X yet, it puts this hectic metallic feel on everything I throw it.

I’ve had a great time with Quanta so far. It’s extremely easy to use, it has a grain generation parameter, and every parameter has a corresponding randomization knob which I’ve found very useful. The only issue I’ve had so far is occasional disgusting pops and clicks on loading a couple samples. Oth...

Thanks for the reply addendum. I know there are many resources to read up on audio theory, but is there one you'd recommend that you feel explains things very clearly?

So if stereo outputs in modular are not transporting two distinct signals, why would they have two distinct outputs?

Yes I did, thanks for asking! I had some issues for a week with getting it work properly with the Impact Twin but I got my first sound out of it last night :bananaguitar: :bananaguitar:. I just spent a couple hours getting lost in the Sound Browser and it absolute does live up to the hype in terms o...

-Madrona Labs Kaivo (again GS is not the focus but the form of synthesis is involved) One way to look at Kaivo is that it's a great all-the-basics multi-sample granular synth with extremely interesting and unusual modulation engines, plus powerful resonant delay and reverb FX that make it optionall...

Density and Pulsaret by Alessandro Petrolati are pretty weird and deep. There even used to be a version of Density that ran in Csound. standalone - http://www.apesoft.it/download/ Max for Live - https://www.amazingnoises.com/product/density-m4l-pulsaret-m4l/ Incompatible with macOS High Sierra is a...

I've been wondering the same thing for a while now too! I did some shallow research a couple weeks back and compiled a list of Granular Synthesis focused VST's on the market right now, and this is by no means exhaustive: -The Mangle -New Sonic Arts Granite -Crusher-X -SoundMorph Dust -UVI Falcon (Gr...

Back again with another one, this time more on the blissful, beautiful side the Lyra has to offer. Changing the scales/tuning completely alter the feeling of this fine thing : https://soundcloud.com/tumulishoomaroom/tape-with-no-tape I love how the LFOs create sounds close to those of missing parts...

Lots of people are using MOTU interfaces successfully as well as much cheaper ones like the ones Roland mentioned. I've used an Apogee Duet Firewire (cheap on secondhand market and sounds great), a TC Impact Twin, and a Logitech headset, all successfully with no hiccups and great sound quality. I c...

Welcome to the club! The Soundplane is a lovely device. I got once of the original batches and had it shipped to SSC first so they could work with Randy to add support. If you have an iPad laying around, or pick up an old one, the iPad client also is nice to have for remote VCS control. It would be...

Congratulations on the purchase. Here to help with questioms, albeit I'm no expert. The initial experience you have may be that you find the software a little old fashioned in looks and quirky. It doesn't have the visual bells and whistles of some DAWS plug-ins etc. I encourage you to look past thi...

I just ordered a Pacarana myself, and I do agree that it's frustrating that a lot of their approved Audio Interfaces are legacy products and can only communmicate over FireWire, which it seems many newer products don't offer support for. I hesistant to order something that would degrade the sound qu...

That's really gracious of you to offer! Sadly, I live in new york city :/. The features for compositional aid do seem extensive from your list though so that's very promising. And if integration with a DAW isn't too troublesome then the possibilities are endless :guinness: :guinness:

Implementing Granular Synthesis

Hello! Have any of you guys ever built your own granular synth? If so, what would you recommend for doing so? I'm fairly proficient with C++ so that wouldn't be an issue but I'm wondering if that's overkill. Can PD or Max/MSP implement a good sounding (subjective, I know) granular synth? I know GS c...

Interesting, thanks for the response gosh . It does make sense that Kyma's primary focus is sound design and so it is a sound design tool, but a sound itself is never all that intriguing; it becomes intriguing when put in the context of other sounds and when it becomes part of some kind of movement,...

I'm looking into getting a Pacarana right now. How do you guys feel about multitrack recording, automating, and composing inside Kyma now? Has the experience of it improved with subsequent versions? I know they added the Multigrid in Kyma 7 but I'm still not entirely clear on what it does :hmm:
