Re: Bipolar to unipolar conversion

To me this will always be a custom patch regarding the source bipolar voltage not being exactly -5 to +5. If I, personally am going to do it, your own mileage may vary, I want the min amplitude to be 0v. I mean with say a +-4v source offset 5v, I don't really have much that finds a cv of +1 to +9 us...

Stabs are traditionally samples, that's not to say they can't be synthesized but that's not what's making most of them

Re: Alternative to Waldorf Streichfett?

Good strings are subjective and in context. The Behringer is the only actually cloned new string synth. String synths sort of vanished by 1980 - they have teased a Solina clone to come. The Roland it copies fairly well seems to have been built just for unique not real sounding choirs and string pads...

Haven't started but it's on my agenda. Shouldn't one be able to scope what the internal sequencer puts out for the BD via a probe?

Re: Recursive Machine Build Thread

Looking at the Mouser BOM from the THC site - what I'm looking at it shows up as RM 3.0 on Mouser I see a Bourns 10K trimmer 652-3362P-1-103TLF that I don't see on the PCB? I see a bunch of different spec resistors, for instance 1/3w, 1/2w, 1200ppm - are there any through hole resistors that need a ...

Re: [AVAILABLE] Pharmasonic Series 700 VCO synthCube kits

704 VCA comments. The 100u caps need to be 10mm tall or shorter to clear the front panel. This is a general rule for Pharmasonic PCBs. They suggest Mouser 647-USR1C100MDD, which is a Nichicon 16v. No reason to use that exact one but I've found my own 25v caps tend to be too tall. Pharmasonic uses s...

Re: Which VCA fits the Verbos Multi-Envelope best?

Send it to a VCO if you don't have a scope. Listen if there is a glitch in it. I bought one of the first ones made a few years ago and I had a problem in the release. Mark fixed it for me. No issues since. Yes it's definitely not 10v, it's not in front of me but it's more like 5v. But that should ju...

Vangelis had FM since the End Titles of Blade Runner. I picked Soil Festivities since it has a bit more from memory and is less conventional.

Re: serge slope schematic clarification

Prior to the push pull Bananalogue added, it was popular to mix some of the output back into the slope CV to create "non-linear" slope shapes. This can be done with other envelope type modules with VC control of times.

Re: Have You Had to Replace Any Panel Pots, Jacks, Switches and LEDs in Your FracRack?

The instance that comes to mind is the front panel printing started flaking off my mini wave. John was with us back then and he was kind enough to send a replacement. It wasn't hard to swap. I take things as they fail unless there is a known issue with a specific module. John once sent some kind of ...

Re: The esoteric out-to-out patching

Talking about combining a dry signal with it filtered where one is inverted (sometimes already output that way), results in the low pass cancelling out entirely leaving low pass. The first paragraph on the pdf is that. Many builders design know someone will patch anything to anything, but some are n...

Re: The esoteric out-to-out patching

Well you can generally get a high pass signal from a low pass by mixing it with an inverted dry signal, though it should be pointed out that sometimes the low pass output is already inverted so in this case the uninverted dry signal will work. I'm talking about simply mixing, no need to run audio ba...

Re: Multitracking and reverb?

Depends if hearing the fx are influencing your playing style and and if you have enough tracks. If you have enough tracks there shouldn't be an advantage to "bake" the effects and dry track together, you can't adjust the balance later, you can't use the fx to "glue" the multitracks if you wanted to ...

Re: Yasuaki Shimizu, Mariah and similar Japanese music

YMO itself is probably one of his least interesting projects, and that’s saying something because YMO (especially the overlooked extended-band live material with Yano, Suzuki, etc.) is absolutely impeccable. I got to see Hosono last fall in NYC. Most happy show in a long long time. The band played ...

Re: Yasuaki Shimizu, Mariah and similar Japanese music

Sakamoto follows his muse to where that takes him. You can see post YMO he was looking a bit for direction, seriously tried a far more mainstream pop (well mainstream for him, more genre busting comparatively) thing, then let that go. Around the millennium I get the impression the idea of legacy as ...

Re: Yasuaki Shimizu, Mariah and similar Japanese music

I have a site, but it's out of date. http://technopop.info Hosono has mostly been exploring sort of laid back R&B, generally pre-Rock era American sounds for a few years, it's quite wonderful, but he's not really been doing electronic experimental for a while. I ran into a 1980 Shimizu project I can...
