Re: Planning my first modular (Moon)

After hearing a demo of the Moon 530 stereo delay I'm having big-time second thoughts about my previously-stated boycott of Moon products. That thing sounds f-in' amazing!

Re: regional voltage question

If it says 100 volts I would feed it 100 volts. Get thyself a 120V > 100V transformer.

Re: Dotcom Panel wiring vs. Panel PCBs

One advantage to the Dotcom design that hasn't been mentioned is that it paves the way for simple *solderless* upgrades via factory-provided kits: Q107 (2U) > Q107A (1U) Q150 (2U) > Q150A (1U) Q106 (2U) > Q106A (2U; adds Q141 functionality) Perfect for wigglers like me who don't DIY (at least, not i...

IMHO, This is a great subject with the best of humor intended - at least by me. I even sent my image to Wendy Carlos and she got a kick out of it.
You heard back from her??? :yay: On her website she's been incommunicado for around 10 years. Did she say anything worth repeating here?

Re: Pony-Tails and Moog (MU/5U) modulars

I've had a ponytail since 1989; I've had my Moog-format synth since 2017. Does this mean that if I cut off my ponytail, my synthesizer will disappear? :hmm:

I'm bumping this thread because Jeremy's entry on the 5U Facebook group says that this weekend (4/25 – 26) is the last chance to order this panel.

Dual Q108 Panel Kit from Jeremy Sharp

Jeremy Sharp has created a panel kit that combines two Dotcom Q108 VCAs into a single panel. I have his Trumansburg VCF panel and can vouch for the quality and Jeremy's attention to detail. Includes replacement knobs. 93374776_3026760707383045_8407650188478382080_o.jpg https://synthpanels.bigcartel....

Re: Yay to Doug at SSL!!!

I own five SSL 1200 VCOs as well as one of their DDLs and S-Pulser and can't say enough about SSL's quality or about Doug's top-notch customer service. When one of my VCOs arrived it failed to properly track 1V/octave. Doug was willing to walk me through the calibration procedure long-distance so I ...

I worked at Nakamichi between 1981 and 1993, and the old Nakamichi BX-300 is exactly what you need: A discrete 3-head deck with a front-panel playback pitch control (±6%, or about one semitone either way). HOWEVER, that model was discontinued around 30 years ago. If you can find one it will probabl...

Unfortunately, I have NO 5U plans for the weekend as the University, where I have my modular housed, is shut down for the rest of the month due to the Corona virus. I'm gonna have to find contentment with my Oberheim Xpander this weekend.

Standard 22U wide studio cabinets here. 22U-wide walnut studio cabs for me as well. FYI, the original "standard" for Moog walnut studio cases was 24U wide (Wendy Carlos's Moog is 24U wide). Moog had to switch to 22U-wide cases when they were no longer able to source solid walnut panels of sufficien...

Re: Which module controls do you tweak the most?

Except for playing the keyboard, I don't "perform" my synthesizer. When setting up a patch I spend the most time wiggling the following controls: 1. Envelope generator settings 2. Oscillator fine-tuning controls 3. Filter frequency CV and manual frequency cutoff 4. Fixed filter bank controls. Rarely...
