Re: Ideas for manipulation of VCOs without 1v/oct

You could "record" it into something like morphagene, or clouds or any sampler that has a 1v/oct. Obviously you'll get pitch effects on the sound and it won't sound quite the same as a normal oscillator being sequenced, but then, it probably wont sound the same anyway! I've got some really cool soun...

Re: How do you use LFOs?

Just think of it as a cyclic pattern of modulation being sent to whatever destination you choose. Rather than a "one shot" enveloped shaped coming from an envelope generator which (generally) only happens when it receives a trigger. THE O in LFO stands for Oscillator so that's basically exactly all ...

Re: Warm Audio Bus Comp question

I've been contemplating getting one of these guys, after eying the Neko Neko clone for a long time. I've listened to lots of demos of the transformers in action, and also when using plugin emullations ofsimilar circuits i find that they just turn my mix into mush. Mixing and producing dance music th...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?

Chris of Learning Modular gave a pretty reasonable sounding explanation for why you might want to go 96 KHz. I'm just trying to paraphrase, so please correct if anything here sounds wrong. The issue, according to this explanation, is the filtering required to avoid aliasing. Assuming you want to ca...

Re: MakeNoise Morphagene

It's incredible how easy you can automatically chew audio like in Keith Fullerton Whitman's Greatest Hits using the right combination of good splices and fine-tuned modulation. Down here's how I used Brian Eno's iconic six-second Windows 95 startup sound to randomly generate one hour of ambient mus...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?

I'd love to hear some A/B comparisons of your 16a doing the same sequence, or recording the same full track (even if its just a demo snippet) between 44/48khz and 96khz and take a listen on my hd25's. I'm really keen on upgrading everything as long as i can actually hear a difference personally. Ye...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?

It’s difficult to be scientific about these things as always and in this case even harder as I’ve changed multiple things, including going from 48kHz to 96kHz sample rate. I had absolutely next to no latency with the 828s anyway so I wouldn’t say it’s made that much difference. It states 5ms on the...

Re: Do high end mixers matter?

I’m just about to switch my home recording set-up. For the last few years I’ve been using a pair of MOTU 828mkII’s to multitrack record my jams. All the instruments go into an Allen&Heath mix wizard, then I take the post-EQ, post-fader direct outs into my soundcards and monitor from the master outp...

Anyone else here have major problems getting the sequencer to stay in sync with midi/DAW? Starts off in time but within a bar or two is lagging. Basically unusable for the main thing it's designed for. I've had it un used for a good 2 years now because of this, and since i got the modular i havent r...

Re: ES-3 vs FH-2 for clock and note control in ableton

I don't send midi clock from my DAW through my cv.ocd. I always use a clock pulse sample as an audio out of my MOTU soundcard. It's always way tighter, midi jumps and jitters around heavily on my PC. Never known why, but most of my midi devices dont properly stay in sync when in arpegiator modes. Es...

Yes i've got 8 of my ins and outs into a patch bay. All the IN are along the top row, all the OUTs are along the bottom. I've then got some outboard compressors and eq's and vitalizers etc hooked up to the other side of the patchbay, again with their INs at the top and their OUTs at the bottom, just...

Re: Secret weapon processing (plugins/hardware)

Mostly "your sound" shouild be to do with the choice of samples/synths/sound sources. If it's dance music, if you have a certain palette of sounds you go for, that would be "your sound". Some compression is hardly ever going to make you sound noticeably different in style unless you are squashing th...

I just got one of these after returning a Malekko Quad VCA that had bleed on 3 of the 4 channels. Tried another one in the store and that one was even worse . . . Wow! I was about to buy a Malekko quad-VCA for its rather unique feature-set. Unfortunate to hear. Is bleed between channels basically n...

Re: Module for heavy bass?

Lots of people talking about miltiple ocs moving against each other. This often makes bass sounds thinner imo. Sure you're detuning them and they sound "phatter" in terms of thickness and overall frequencies in the spectrum, but the low end can suffer from this sometimes i find with the beating of w...

Re:

Until you find whatever special VCO you are looking for, try adding a sine wave from the VCO you are using, post filter so higher resonance settings/cut off position, will not affect the "weight" of the bass and it will always be in phase with whatever waveform you are using. Just use a mixer and m...

I've had my setup for 2 1/2 years now. I've made a fair bit of music on it as a solo instrument, but i also have it synced up with my DAWs clock and midi outs etc (using my soundcard to send triggers, and also a cv.ocd) Mostly i use it for relaxation/cathartic reasons. Re: Tuning Guide/Help

I always turn my synth on around half an hour before i want to start tuning (and playing) so they will stay in tune. I put (usually 4, sometimes more) oscillators into a mixer, turn them all down. Then turn up osc1, tune to C (using a tuner) then turning each osc up on the mixer. Takes a min or two ...
