Re: how do you manage your musical timeline using modular

Set up something as a clock, set up several sequencers or other melody generators, modulate and mix the sequence voltages, modulate the melody generators, some efx, record stereo or multi tracks, additional edits and efx in post.

Re: Sputnik Touch Keyboard

I just bought one second hand.... I didn’t pay very much, so I’m happy with it. The basic keyboard functions seem to do what they are supposed to and the pressure out works well. The arpeggiator works as expected. The position slider is steppy rather than smooth, so not what I expected, but you can ...

Re: When did you realize you were a modular aficionado?

Heard “Silver Apples of the Moon” when it came out. Got to use a modular at Indiana University when I was in the music program there, starting in 1971. Managed to buy a 2600 in 1979. Been at it since.

Re: Verbos Mini horse

I bought a Mini Horse this week. Fixed voltages, variable voltages, and gates worked as expected. Pressure voltages did not have a smooth response... audibly or on the scope. Not steppy exactly, but jagged. Easily tamed by patching through a slew. Position voltage not smooth, as above, but once agai...

Re: What's the craziest thing you've done for module money?

Not crazy.... just sold a pile of vintage synths that I’d had since the 70s and 80s. Including... Korg MS 20 SQ 10 MS 50 PS 3100 Roland Juno 60 SH 101 2 MC 202s SVC 350 MKS 70 with programmer JX 10 Various other Moog and Oberheim stuff.... and vintage rack mount efx. Dumped some of it into modular w...

Done both since the 70’s. Probably the best setup for me is just the B&G SS and my 2600. Bought the 2600 in ‘79, bought the SS in late 2016 as my first euro. The euro has expanded considerably since then.... but I’m in the process of deciding what to sell off. The right modular plus semi combination...

I have worked with modular and semi modular synths since the early 70s. I started in euro about 3 years ago. My first buy was a Make Noise Shared System. I quickly added Tempi and Brains. I think that there are a few gaps in the system.... mostly envelopes and LFOs. They are there, in Maths, just no...

A friend has both the Kijimi, and the Deckard’s Dream. I’ve played with them quite a bit. They sound cool, but just aren’t my thing.... overly complex, tiny little controls, and a tiny OLED. They feel like I’m using an app. The single voice might be more interesting to me....

They can and are planning on adjusting the brightness, K?
Are you saying that the brightness will be user adjustable?
If that’s the case, then I’m back on board.

There were a lot of contortions to keep from calling it a delay.... I’m keeping my 2016 Shared System in its original state, other than the addition of brains and Tempi. I’m going to start a skiff to add in the new MN modules that I feel like I’ll gel with. I really do wish that they would do a few ...

I think that one of the interesting points of this discussion, which was referenced in the talk, is the role of consulting musicians in the design of these instruments. I do believe that Subotnick had quite an influence on the development of the instrument that landed at the SF Tape Music Center. I ...
