Re: Power amp intermittent fault

Hi, Thanks for your input. It’s been helpful and interesting to get another perspective. Don’t worry about ‘being rude’ it’s a very subjective issue. I realise I’ve some serious moolah to drop to get something appreciably better and my 60 year old ears might not appreciate it.😁 Plan is (for this wee...

Re: Power amp intermittent fault

Hi Ashleym, :hihi: I did think of it as an opportunity to get me some active monitors, but I’m used to how they sound, plus I’m using them with a pair of Acoustic Energy AE2’s on their dedicated stands. The whole shebang is a throwback to when it was my hifi system. The thought of advertising them a...

Power amp intermittent fault

Hi All, I’m looking for some guidance. One of my Audiolab 8000P power amps has an intermittent fault; on powering up it operates normally i.e. sound comes out of the speakers, but after about 3/4 minutes it shuts down and the sound disappears. I can leave it for around 2/3 minutes and it’s ok again....

Hi, Welcome. I totally agree with Datum, although don’t underestimate the pull of GAS(gear acquisition syndrome). I’ve had a Live for 8 months and have barely scratched its surface, but then I’ve got a modular to play with too. What about a Live and a Make Noise 0-Coast, budget allowing of course. T...

Thanks Monotremata, I might try that although I’ve just read over on MPC Forums someone who’s gone to 2.6 and he (and at least A. N. Other) have reported screen sluggishness. I guess it’s a case of can I live with all my presets called Init. That’s easier to live with than a slower screen. Regards, ...

Akai MPC Live FX Presets....

Hi All, When saving my own FX settings to the internal HDD and recalling them the settings are there but the title is lost and is ‘Init’. The only time the settings and the title are saved correctly is when it’s saved to the internal memory. Is this correct? Any information about this would be great...

Hi, @plop. It did occur to me that they might be inductors, but surely the PCB would be marked L1,2 etc. @guest. Good point, will probably order some 68ohm from Farnell. No mention on the schematic though (R36 & 47). Cheers, MtD. https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/userpix2/34497_2bf6d0fed10d48b5aabe1...

Cheers Diode Destroyer, However I pasted that link into Google and it said no such page. I don’t suppose you downloaded the file? I’ll be adding them to the Farnell order. Other bits I’m replacing are the MOSFET, UC3842IC, the three 1ohm resistors and the 460/470ohm resistor connected to pin 3 on th...

Resistor ID please.

Hi, I’d like opinions on the colour bands on the two circled resistors. I get B1 Black, B2 Violet, B3 Brown, B4 Gold. Now the calculator I used gives zero ohms for B1. So I make it 70ohms 5%. 1Watt. They’re on a Soundcraft Spirit M12 SMPS. The thick white line on the PCB is where mains turns to LV; ...

Hi Thanks for that Cornutt. Having thought about it again, I guess I could use the siggen set at 1kHz and 0.775v into my Focusrite 18i20, see what the meters on that read and the ones in Live and if that is the reading of 0dB on an old skool VU meter than I’ll know what I’m looking at? Yes? I’m stil...

I use a Fluke 177 at work and in my SDIY stuff. I’ve also got a cheapo Amazon meter I use on SDIY/‘tronics when I need two meters. You need something of the Flukes quality if you’re using day in, day out otherwise for simple SDIY any meter will let you do the basic component/voltage checks for SDIY....

A question about testing and calibration....

Hi All, I’ve recently been looking into DIY 500 series modules. Reading the testing and calibration procedures of say an 1176 clone it requires a certain level of signal given as e.g. 1kHz sine @ -18dBFS. I’ve two questions on this: 1. In your DAW, how do you know when you’ve dialed in the right lev...

Thanks again, Mungo for all that. Mine did exactly the same as his - fuse blows, replace fuse, magic smoke.
Seems to be a weak point in that PSU there. Glad that you confirmed them resistors as the Rcsf from the data sheet, I did wonder.
More tracing and drawing for me.’

Hi Mungo, Many, many thanks for that. I’ll do some more track tracing and draw it out. Could I ask if you could see what the resistor values are? I get 3x 1 ohm @ 5% ( Br, Bl, Gd, Gd) and 1x 4k6@ 0.1% (Y, B, R, Vio). From looking at the traces underneath, it doesn’t seem to make any sense to have 3 ...

Tascam DP24/32 sync.

Hi, I’m thinking of getting one of the above recorders. Now that Tascam have dropped the MIDI ports of the SD versions I’d like to know how you can sync up one track to another. Can you line them up with the accuracy of your average DAW? Given that the DP’s can record up to 8 tracks at once it might...

Soundcraft Spirit M12 PSU issue.

Hi All, I’ve got one of the above mixers. It needs attention to the PSU. With reference to the photo 3 of the 4 resistors seem to be 3 ohms, the fourth well who knows. My question is why would there be 3 x3 ohm + X fourth in parallel (according to the PCB tracks). The right hand side comes from the ...

Hi, Anyone in the UK done a Hairball 1176 kit. I’ve done a good few modular kits with no issues and would love to do one of these. The only thing stopping me is the extra cost of the customs - 20%VAT+2.5% duty, which by my reckoning comes to around £597 including shipping. Or I could just get Warm A...

I got probably one of the last black ‘specials’. Yes, it’s a bit quirky but I love it and it a keeper.
The interface isn’t that bad IMHO. I’d get another if I could find one.
