Re: Nutz nuts nuts

I have two sets of small thin open-end wrenches (metric and American) - known in the trade as ignition wrenches - that work on this kind of stuff.

Re: Removing Encoder Knobs

Go to an automotive store or a place like Harbor Freight, get a set of trim & molding tools - they're pry bars for removing interior trim panels, usually made of plastic, different shapes and sizes.

Re: [Project] Turing Machine Mk2

I have build/soldered quite a number of modules in the last 12 years, too. Even a whole synth (Mutable Instruments Shruthi) and I am not without the necessary basic skills imho (as your message implies). I have resoldered the module twice already and my neighbour multimetered the connections. My gu...

Re: [Project] Turing Machine Mk2

I have done that twice (one time me, one time my neighbour). I mean literally resoldering all joints...well if I get bored anytime soon I may do it again...sigh I think that one of the components might be bad but with my limited understanding I can't tell which may be responsible...nobody else has ...

Re: Advice for powering used rack

Yes i know, and from what i can see, with a 40cm board, 1mm track width (might be a bit more) and 1 oz of copper at 35°C you already have about 0.2 ohms. But has i told you i don't know for sure if it's 1oz. (But usually when people put more than 1oz they communicate about it because that's a plus)...

Re: Advice for powering used rack

I'm a little afraid to ask, but I will anyway. When I test my outlet with a multimeter, testing hot wire and neutral I get 120v one way, then switch the leads I get 0v, as expected. If it's a standard 120-volt AC outlet you should get 120 volts regardless of which test lead is on the Hot side and w...

Re: Cell Tower Interference in Studio Monitors

Re: Advice for powering used rack

Yeah, those are Synthrotek bus boards Maybe this is an ideal opportunity to replace them with the latest shrouded Doepfer busboard variants, or similar, then? (Also makes it really easy to find a suitable PSU.) Leaving aside the "eww" factor of touching Synthrotek that some people feel, a lot of th...

Re: Advice for powering used rack

whoah, I'd seen that page but didn't notice that, thanks! Wish those pins were labeled on my boards as well...but I'm sure it'll be fine :-D You can also work backwards with a meter - put one probe on the +12 volt pin of a ribbon cable socket, use the other probe to find which Molex pin matches, etc.

Re: Advice for powering used rack

It's occurred to me that I don't even know if those distribution boards work. So I'm going to pick up a cheap and familiar (to me) meanwell, hook them up and see how it goes. If they *don't* work I see some nice PS + distro board systems out there all ready to go and play nice together. Or I could ...

And regarding EyG's comment above, I have 68 eurorack modules, NONE OF THEM require +5 volt supply. You have to decide whether it's necessary for you in that box.

Re: Advice for powering used rack

Yeah I'm pretty comfortable on the output side--I can use a multimeter to figure out which leads are which if they aren't labeled, and look up the spec on the distro boards connectors. But I am confused by what appear to be 5 leads on the input side of that linear power supply I linked to. Their do...

@arthurdent: i use a meanwell for my arduino projects--it has the advantage of everything being clearly labeled, which i think is a great virtue. but i've been told they are noisy and don't really deliver on their ratings? Thinking of buying a load of machined IC-sockets from them, anyone ordered any of those recently?
There are a couple of threads already in place in the DIY forum about IC sockets, you may want to look at them to see what peoples' experiences have been.

Re: Advice for powering used rack

Those are synthrotek noise filtering power distribution boards. There are power supplies that plug directly into those molex connectors but you could use almost any power supply. You can easily figure out what you need to know with a multimeter, those molex connectors are for +12V -12V +5V and GND ...

Re: Announcing Strega!

On this, how should we "dispose" them? I mean, on top of the others, it's a bit "tall". A 3 tier stand would be unpractical and/or weirdly high. But laying them side to side makes no sense because of the side DC plug. It also makes no sense because of the connections at the bottom/top of the machin...

Since this is now the "official" Strega thread, I will repeat one comment I made in the "rumors" thread because I believe it is relavent. I like the Strega, I think that it would go great with my 0-Coast and 0-Ctrl, but I feel that it is overpriced by $100 as I don't see it as being any better/great...

I already own a 0-Coast and a 0-Ctrl. This would look nice together with those; but I could get a Befaco Krush AND a Flight of Harmony Sound of Shadows for less than $599, I've got some space in my existing euro rack to put them and just use the VCO's/VCF's/VCA's that I currently have. DUNNO, gonna...
