Re: What is this classic bass sound?

Damn right it's Detroit. Wouldn't surprise me if that was Mad Mike's MP4. It's always been his secret weapon and he's played on all kinds of other people's stuff out there.

Re: What is this classic bass sound?

I'll take your money, because I'm betting it's a MonoPoly. That sounds like a Korg filter, too thin to be an MS-20, but in the neighbor hood. It's couple of pulse waves, with the pulse width and filter modulated, just slightly detuned from one another. It's a detune, not the Juno chorus.

Re: Replacement Neck?

Warmoth would easily be your safest bet. You could probably spend more if you wanted to, but in fact many high end manufacturers use Warmoth's necks, including Roger Sadowsky. He fine tunes it, and of course 90% of the necks Warmoth sends him, he rejects, but despite the little tweaks, they're still...

If someone was connected to you LAN through a couple of ports, and granted access as a trusted machine, would they be recognized and added to a Link network? Thoughts?

Re: Expert Sleepers disting EX

I've not dealt with Control that I can recall, but even when there has been a wait of over a month, Perfect Circuit's customer support staff were polite, understanding, as informative as they could be, and kind, without trying to hand me some sort of pacifier, or other bullshit. That alone was enoug...

Shit. Well... I guess I know what's next on my list now. Yeah.. its on my list..... Problem is I can't find seller who actually HAS one .. in Stock! I ran into the same problem with the Mk4's. I'd suggest just ordering through Perfect Circuit, and they will send you yours as soon as the shipment ar...

Re: Momo Modular not on Modular Grid?

As far as I know, MomoModular just does builds, he doesn't do any opf the design work, he doesn't do custom layouts, he's just doing really nice, solid builds from others' kits. It doesn't make sense that he'd be on ModGrid.

Re: COCOQUANTUS 2 "GETTING STARTED MANUAL"

Just make sure that your Euro and CL gear have a common ground or you may burn things up. No bueno. That said, I have a great time using my Transdimensional Portal Key with my Euro stuff. I don't use any converter boxes, I just connect a ground wire and then chop a Euro cable and attach a banana pl...

Re: Modular-as-a-synth-voice: What modules are "essentials&

My Eurorig is basically a synth voice with some effects and sequencing. Maths, Complex VCO (Cs-L), Wavetable VCO (Graphic VCO), a couple of Disting Mk4's, a couple of VCA's, VCF (Z2040 mk2), SDS Reflex, SDS RIT-M, and an Antumbra Smog for good measure. I mix the VCO outputs with a Bastl DUDE, I have...

Re: What are your goals when it comes to modular synthesis?

Personally, I got into modular gear for the sound quality and the way that signals interact in the hardware realm. There are some things that happen in modular synths that don't seem to happen anywhere else. I don't have a lot of modular stuff, and I'm not really trying to build some giant wankerifi...

Here's what I mean by Transdimensional Portal Key. Just the Cocoquantus mangling a vocal sample from the XLR input, live, no overdubs or edits apart from chopping the ends, just a touch of reverb, EQ and compression afterward. Strap yourself in, you're going for a ride. https://hearthis.at/ghwpxHZQ/...

Re: what is the most exotic/bizarre sounding module you own

If it has to be Euro, then probably my Benjolin, but otherwise nothing else even comes close to my Cocoquantus. Case in point, this is just the CQ2 mangling a single vocal sample, live, lots of squishing, no other modules or device, except a tiny bit of reverb, compression and EQ IN POST, no overdub...

Re: What is the BEST DELAY for you, what sounds Best???

Ibanez AD-9, Cocoquantus, and my SDS Reflex Live-looper. The Ibanez just has this dirty slap that is super fun, and if you adjust the trimpot inside you can get it to make some pretty serious analog delay feeding back howls and groans. The Cocoquantus... well either you know or you don't. But really...

Re: COCOQUANTUS 2 "GETTING STARTED MANUAL"

Is it allright to use a modular level signal or is it to 'hot'. I used both the left stereo in and the piezo in that way... Next step to make a converter box for those Eurorack/banana combination. I have never had any problem running euro into cocos. And a conversion box is pretty grand. It really ...

These are cheap enough 4mm banana plug Remove the plastic insulation & you have touchable nodes. Another option are these 3.5mm banana ends . I use the males as they just drop down into the sockets, but are also easily removed if you feel you REALLY have leave a cable in there. Just pull them out w...

Re: Difference in MIDI clock quality between DAWs?

Yeah, I'm going to have to go ahead and second that one on Ableton. The jitter and latency change when you switch devices in Live on or off. If you hover your cursor over a device, Live will even tell you what that device costs to process, measured in samples. So go ahead and use that little track d...

Re: Atari ST as programmer for synths

There are some emulators around, but even with our blindingly fast processors of today, nothing comes close to the timing stability of an ST. Probably has a lot to do with midi ports built right onto the motherboard with DMA (direct memory access). There's a lot to be said for a bare bones OS that j...

Volca sample but I'd spend a bit more on a used MPC1k fully loaded with JJOS OS2XL on it. If you want real drum sounds, and a drum machine that can handle the technical demands of proper prog and metal, I'd say the the latter is the one for the job. It's a little quirky to get your head around at fi...
