Hello, I’m looking for someone to build and calibrate two micro Ornaments and Crime. I bought the PCBs, screens, encoders, jacks etc, but am having trouble sourcing all the SMT parts and after doing some practice boards am not sure i’ll be able to adequately solder in the tiny parts without any shor...

[Solved] Digital Signal Flow Help/Puzzle, lol :hmm:

I was wondering if anyone could help me debug an issue I've been having. I've never done any digital workflow stuff and imagine y'all are pretty good as a collective haha. I have a Focusrite 18i8 (rev 1), an Ultragain Digital ADAT expansion, and a Digital MPA II (see I/O below). I've been trying to ...

Ooh, great ideas everyone!

I think it might be a kalimba indeed with some velocity triggered distortion.
It seems to me that the lead that plays after the part at 1:02 is probably a clean version of the instrument and I think it's likely a kalimba.

Thanks!

What is this sound?

So, I recently came across this bomb NIN track that I somehow slept on and was wondering whether anyone knew how he did this one sound... It's the instrument that comes in at around 1:02 and plays the staccato notes and I love it and the vibe...

As a gestalt, you could try to do what I do sometimes which is I monitor and turn up the speakers to as loud as I would possibly want that sound to be and listen for the noise floor and then turn down the input gain until I can't, as long as I stay above -40 to -50 dB

Speaking as a drummer, for 4/4: do something big on 1 and 3, fill in the rest with something rhythmic, more hi hat hits than snare; with song structure changes, just hit different sounds other than snare and kick with the same pattern at the same, half, or double speed; repeat

You'll have to buy more attenuverters and mod sources to use it to any degree so it's costlier than you think.

Looks fun! One thing I'd like to add is to remember to buy enough cables. Nothing worse than wanting to do something but can't because you didn't get enough cables. I'd recccomend either Black Market Modular or TipTop Stackables for some mult action. I'd count up all the "holes" on your rack and get...

Sorry, but could you expand on what logic is involved? Thanks a bunch!

If you're really paranoid, you might as well plug them into different mains power plugs (different wall sockets on different fuses). Then there is literally no way for them to connect electronically other than if lightning strikes one and arcs to the other, but then you've got worse problems.

I get where you're coming from, but as you get more familiar with the format this becomes much less of a problem. Just look up the modules people talk about, and soon enough you'll know the most common ones and their alternatives. And then, when people name a module you'll know how the most common s...

The Oppourtunity Cost of Rack Space

I was thinking recently about how when deciding on modules-after considering what it does-- we also assess how much it costs and to some extent its size. I realized that while we have a nominal way of dealing with the former, I don't believe there is common knowledge for dealing with the latter. I t...

If you just want a reverb sound, I would advocate doing it outside the box as, imo, its really not worth the hp or money just for that. I would advise getting things then that are quintessentially modular and have a lot of CV inputs. I have the Erbe Verb and its magnificent, but it is difficult to g...

I WISH I could find a QMMG priced reasonably, haha. If you have the means, I would absolutely get it as it's historically and sonically significant in the community and you will have a lot of fun with it!
