Re: Best ‘Modular’ Environment in Maxforlive

another shout for oscillot here. It's more integrated than BEAP as you can patch live without having to open max. Sounds great. Good modules. Can be a bit CPU heavy and GUI crashy but i've not run into many problems despite it not being actively maintained any more... free version gives a good idea ...

Re: Polyend Tracker

Reading all these problems i wonder why they dont just release the source code and let proper programmers in the wild actually fix the problems they seem uninterested in addressing. As somebody who has written a fair amount of code dealing with audio and MIDI, i cannot understand how they can make a...

Re: Another one of those "oh shit" moments episode 9999, plugging in a header wrong...

Thanks for the reply. Everything else was plugged in correctly, and all seems to be working fine. Just wondering why all the LEDs lit up on the other modules when they were all powered from the right rails. The shorting of the -12V on the one module seemed to have some effect on them.

Another one of those "oh shit" moments episode 9999, plugging in a header wrong...

I was moving modules about earlier this afternoon and didnt notice that i had plugged the header to my Doepfer USB power module off by 1 row of pins. I think i had the 5V row on the +12V pins which means that the -12V rail was being shorted to ground directly. Is there any way my other modules could...

Re: Can you hear the difference between audio interface A/D converters?

Necrobump I've done a lot of AB testing of the converters i have had on hand (DAC quality testing only, never done shootouts on the input side) and my finding is that, while there are potential differences, if the levels aren't properly matched one unit can easily sound 'night and day' compared to t...

Re: Repurposing an Ableton Push

I've been reverse engineering a Push 1 for the last few months. The spec is pretty similar to the Push 2, without the graphic display part, which is documented here: https://github.com/Ableton/push-interface/blob/master/doc/AbletonPush2MIDIDisplayInterface.asc . You could definitely get something go...

Everything in totalmix can be mapped to a MIDI controller, so you can almost have a mixer with faders if you feel like going that way.

On 64-bit Max, all floating-point values must fit within 64 bits. Therefore, one will inevitably see a repeating number sometime before 264 choices.

Re: max/msp random float

Hey, i'm not upset at all, but your method does not produce random numbers.

Your print output shows that clearly. The number 0.000000 appears several times, and even twice in a row, among numerous other examples. Then you accuse me of trolling. So, hey ho. That's internet for ya.

Re: max/msp random float

Looking at your list for two seconds i see the same numbers more than once. You are talking about having randomness in sequence. You do not have random numbers being generated.

Re: max/msp random float

Wrong. You are not getting random float numbers ranged between 0 and 1, whatever you think. If a float with six digits of precision repeats then you don't have randomisation.

Re: max/msp random float

Whatever sequence of numbers you put into the scale object, you will always only have a fixed set of possible outputs set by the arguments in scale. You are not 'generating' random numbers in scale, that's not what the object does, put in any number twice and you get the same output. This has to be ...

Re: max/msp random float

^^ That won't produce random numbers at all. Only a selection of 999 floating point numbers between 0 and 1 that will be 100% repeatable with the same input. It's the very opposite of random, apart from the method of selecting a number to output. The actual results will not be random. What's worse i...

Re: max/msp random float

Try this in an expr object: random(0, $f1) / $f1

There's also:

random
urn
drunk

Depends on what you want. They can be seeded to get repeatable output (pseudo-random). Just divide output by the range you give the object and you get a number between 0 and 1 (convert to float if you need)

How's the MiST for MIDI? I was considering getting one a few years back when i felt nostalgic about my ST sequencers, but never got around to it.
