Re: Rene V2, Playability & the Evolution of Make Noise

2. The Eurorack ecosystem in general is also seeing an arms race of sorts because of this digital trend. There are market pressures to offer more "stuff" in fewer hp and this results in a sense among manufacturers that simplistic modules won't sell well. Conversely large modules might be considered...

Re: CV Processing recommendations?

If your attention is shifting mainly to slew, then you should probably take a hard look at the WMD Time Warp. It’s a dual module, but it’s only 4hp, and it’s a gated slew that also has good manual controls.

Re: Rene V2, Playability & the Evolution of Make Noise

Deep topic. Like you, I’m more than a bit leery of Make Noise’s recent dive into digital modules with heavily overloaded controls. (I’m also leery of their ongoing love affair with “color coded” LEDs.) I respect Rene 2, but I’ve stuck with Rene 1, and I don’t really see ever “upgrading”. I had Tempi...

Re: CV Processing recommendations?

I would say Teletype, but then you probably wouldn’t need the E102 any more.

The upcoming Droid would probably allow you to roll your own.

It’s not quite what you’re asking for, but it interests me that there’s no approximation of the Buchla 256e in Eurorack, to my knowledge.

Re: First Eurorack System - Stereo Mixers and Case Options

I will consider all of this as I continue to design my system. Since I made this post I've had somewhat of a change of heart as to exactly what I want my first Eurorack system to be, so I don't think I'm ready to make this mixer decision quite yet. But thank you all for your advice! Taking it slow ...

Re: Expert Sleepers disting EX

I’ve thought a tiny bit more about this. In its current form, the six track recorder should pair quite well right now with a Praga or a Befaco Hexmix/Hexpander because they provide live mixing and monitoring while offering individual channel outs that you could patch over to the Disting EX. If you d...

Re: ACL Sinfonion

Oh, I dunno. The Bitbox is a pretty mature product at this point. It’s not the end-all and be-all of samplers, but it does a lot of useful things competently, and it has a real user interface—particularly the full sized Mk2. The Disting’s strength is also its weakness. It does a lot of stuff, it doe...

No, that’s the Spitfire felt piano that comes on the EX’s SD card. Everybody is gonna be real sick of that piano in another month or two.

Re: ACL Sinfonion

If I may, how did you patch up the Sinfonion to the Disting? Komplex CV out to Sinfonion Channel 2 IN; Channel 2 OUT out to EX pitch IN. Komplex gate out to EX gate IN. Press play on Komplex: piano sounds come out of the EX. Ahh, a simple enough patch. Here I was for some reason thinking that you m...

The Behringer Model D sounds pretty damn good.

The AJH modules sound fabulous, of course, but they will cost you an order of magnitude more.

Re: Expert Sleepers disting EX

As an academic exercise, I was just fooling around with using the EX as a six track audio recorder using firmware 1.2. The main problem I encountered is that it seems it’s not possible to monitor the sum of the six tracks from the EX’s outputs—you’ll only ever hear what is running into inputs 1 and ...

Re: Did your Modular Grid go as planned?

I didn’t begin with ModularGrid, although I was aware of it. (I began with a “complete”—HO HO HO—system from a single producer.) However, I’ve been an avid MG user ever since. In addition to tracking what is new or doing research, I maintain a “conjecture” rack that holds a shifting cast of modules ...

Yes. But if you remove the sliding nuts and install M2.5 threaded strips, then M2.5 knurlies work great.

Re: Pit Modular Case & Knurlies

Cross posting this (from here ). Pulp Logic has the 140hp M2.5 strips—no cutting required. The M2.5 knurlies work great. Only gamble is that some of your Vector rails might be tight and you’ll have to file down the strips a little: I’m back, filing my report on converting my two EP-420s to threaded ...

Re: DROID Universal CV processor

Not sure about a name. Basically, it’s a way to trigger an interesting bridge or transition into another song part (e.g., open a VCA to swell something). What I have in mind, overall, is a set of buttons, each assigned to a song part (A, B, C, D). When you press a button, a number of voltages change...

Re: Samplers with time stretch

This video does not show time stretching in the bitbox. It shows that it slices the loop in 16 divisions and keeps the progression through those slices in time. Meanwhile each slice is sped up or slowed down by the pitch. This is no different than how the sample drum handles it. How about this one?...

Re: Very Specific Sequencer Question

The beauty of doing this sort of thing with Vector is you can include MIDI instruments, too. - Potentially, a single step could be sent to a different output, based on probability. - A subsequencer could literally sequence which output a part is sent to. - A CV signal could maybe change the output r...

Re: Very Specific Sequencer Question

Now I think I understand, and I see why switches and hocketers would indeed be a finicky workaround. Of all the Eurorack sequencers out there, Vector is the obvious candidate for a feature like this because its per-step Chance Ops, Subsequencer parameter, and CV modulation targets are all easily ext...

Re: DROID Universal CV processor

I see the clocktool in the documentation, and I see the contour has some clock-relative timing features. Would it be possible to create a routing where, on a button press, Droid calculates the duration remaining in a bar, and spaws a contour with the necessary Attack to complete its rise at the exac...

Re: Samplers with time stretch

I *think* Bitbox has the kind of time stretching options you’re asking about. See video at 16:29.

Nebulae does time stretching, too, but that’s a different critter.

IIRC, Assimil8or does not do time stretch.
