291r rev2.0 PCB fault - info (dual buchla bandpass)

After completely disassembling one side of my 291 I finally found the issue:

If you have a 291 and your lower Bandpass is pinned to a power rail... check under r52. The two sides of the vactrol are bridged by the highlighted trace that shouldn’t be there.

Re: Sequencers with ramp control

I had problem finding something for me to do this in 4U so I worked on something to do it. I know it's not eurorack but here is my walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpkQ6r6tAO0 The RYO module was one of the inspirations as I always enjoyed that thing when I had euro, along with things lik...

ARP 1047 SVF

I made my own version of the 1047 last year that I quite enjoyed. But I don't completely understand some aspects of the circuit and I would like to. And maybe we can get some insight into how it works from some of the cleverer members here.... and maybe we'll be able to make something. here is my re...

I wonder if it might be Joachim Verghese. He made the dual switchable ARP Odyssey module and he was also the source of ... I think the VC ADSR from J Haible? He also maintained ARPtech.

Joachim Verghese Engineering would be JVE

Re: Problems with Serge Klangzeit panel

Been following this with great interest! Sorry if I’m being slow here, but this would potentially replace both of the SAD’s in the wad?. If so, history is being made and we should all sign a petition for Elby to reissue the WAD boards 😀👌 This board would replace both, yeah. It would be great if Elb...

Re: Problems with Serge Klangzeit panel

So after a first take this is what I have ended up with. They are being ordered this week and if they sound ok in my unit I will hit up Batchas and the other members who wanted to try it. It will require board level modifications. I have used gate drivers recommended to me who says they performed ve...

Re: DEAD Cocoquantus BUFFERS

If you want hi fidelity just buy 2 morphogenes Just to be clear, since I keep getting similar comments to this... I love the sound of these things. They are great. They are noisy, 8 bit delay things with an ADC flashing info into SRAM and spitting it out raw into a DAC clocked by a 4046 up top all ...

Re: CRAP Programmer

Does the preset override the clocking, like on the 245? Do the buttons override the clocking? Do you get the sums of stages when pressing multiple buttons? Function priority goes like this: RESET PRESET HOLD CLOCK reset always overrides everything. Preset is what you are using when you hold a butto...

Re: DEAD Cocoquantus BUFFERS

So i did a new test with the cocolase after swapping opamps just to get some fresh ears on it. It is surely an improvement from what i experienced before. Still some tiny little noise burst when feedback is past 12oclock and some very faint noises when speed is all the way down but i had to turn th...

Re: DEAD Cocoquantus BUFFERS

After some further testing unfortunately this doesn't seem to be the fix.

Buffer still glitches at certain speed settings when you turn the speed down below half or so.

This was likely just masking the issue at higher clock speeds.

Re: DEAD Cocoquantus BUFFERS

Did the cap completely eliminate the noise or make it so the noise didn’t come in until past 12 o clock or farther? On this unit it completely eliminated the noise. I can leave the feedback all the way up with record active all night and the buffer is still clear in the morning. However someone on ...

Correction: what I said about a stability cap is nonsense, I read the schematic wrongly. Working on a better guess as to what is going on.

@sunja I will take a look at an opamp swap, thanks

Re: DEAD Cocoquantus BUFFERS

Here is a photo. I ended up putting 1nF actually, although 100pF worked as well. According to the schematic, there already is supposed to be a capacitor to ground on this pin but it might be too far away to do its job. Putting it RIGHT on the pin like this had an immediate improvement. 105287119_192...

It’s strange because this question/issue has a loooooooong history here on muffs and on the FB “cool kids” group. (do a search for "Cocoquantus noise") It’s always described the same way and sometimes it’s on the left and sometimes on the right. You would think by now we would have a definitive “ h...

Re: What's the deal with these Erica's Synth "Fusion" Modules?

lighting up low power tubes with LEDs is relatvely common, or at least I have seen it done a couple times. (Electribes?) people expect tubes to glow. people like glowy tubes. people like tube sound. people ESPECIALLY like tube sound plus glowy tubes. also glowy tubes help people think that the sound...

Re: Another WAD with problems- no sound from any output

Its shocking to me that STS still daisy chains the power. I know the PCBs were designed that way but it would take almost nothing to separate sections into a pluggable distro. Good luck tho, it will come back! WAD is scary to work on. On my reproduction build I’ve undertaken using photo-reproduced ...

Re: DEAD Cocoquantus BUFFERS

I have a coco here with a noisy buffer.... no matter what you do a rhythmic noise burst comes through if feedback loop is audible at all. I tried a bunch of stuff but in the end what seems to work is a 100pf to GND right on the ADC input pin (TLC0820). I’m going to do more testing but that might hel...
