Did you source your LF351 from Tayda? I and numerous other people have found that they received non-working versions of these chips recently from that source - we had a big Frequency Central group buy here in Australia.

Excellent! I recently received and built 2 of the Polivoks filters (thanks Girts) so I am looking forward to these. The filters were a fun and rewarding build, and I really like the design and finish of the panels (very reminiscent of classic synth designs).

In my experience failed transistors are pretty rare. CMOS chips of that age are a far more likely culprit, had to replace quite a few 4000 series ICs in various vintage devices.

Also, capacitors are quite prone to failure due to age, especially electrolytics and tantalums.

The 120 has a problem with the rhythm pattern ROM dying, I bought one some time ago and it was dead when it arrived. Lights come on and rhythms can be selected, but nothing except some noise on some of the selections. Depends on what the faulty ROM is reading out, I guess.

I have heard that the VCAs in the CS series are prone to failure, the symptoms you're experiencing seem to match those I've read about before. The bad news is this is a custom Yamaha chip that's no longer manufactured...
