Re: How does Optomix compare to the LxD for Buchla Bongo type percussive sounds?

The TW is the closest you'll get to Buchla sounds in Euro IMHO. I've had the OptoMix, QMMG, A-102-1, TW, LxD, Borg 2. The TW is a nice midway sound between the aggressiveness of the QMMG and the pure boringness of the OptoMix (I hate it because it kills high end as a VCA and never sounded that good...

Re: How does Optomix compare to the LxD for Buchla Bongo type percussive sounds?

When i compare them i do think the LXD has more charter too. Its not just the vactrols, its the filtering. Try doing a slow sweep on a saw wave with the optomix and then with the LXD (especially the top 12db per oct channel), I agree the optomix sounds a bit more bland and this does have a big effe...

Re: How does Optomix compare to the LxD for Buchla Bongo type percussive sounds?

Owned both, kept the LxD. The LxD top side is more aggressive and plucky while the optomix is super bland and I hated it, but for some people they really like its sound. The Thomas White is another LPG you might look at, it's a a copy of a Buchla and while the vactrols aren't the exact same, they s...

Re: How does Optomix compare to the LxD for Buchla Bongo type percussive sounds?

I own both as well. Both are more than capable of these sounds. If you use an envelope instead of the strike inputs you can turn them a lot more to taste. With the lxd you would just want an attenuator on your envelope so you can fine tune it. I prefer the lxd. The decay on my lxd and optomix are si...

Re: New intellijel wavefolder/crossfader: bifold

Can anyone with experience comment on how close the buchla side actually sounds like buchla? I had the feedback two59 oscillators/shaper and it’s wave folder was a clone of the buchla 259 folder and it was the warmest most organic folding ive ever heard. Not sure if I’m getting the same vibe from th...

Re: Ochd or Sloths

And if I get the ochd am I also going to need to get a levit8 or something :-)? Depends on what you are plugging them into. You will need some form of attentuation, but some modules have this built in. In fairness, the Sloths and Ochd both need attenuation, so that would be the same either way. hes...

Re: What a used Natural Gate in VG condition looks like

What a shame ... a $400 module that looks like ass after less than a few years of service. I would think that if the manufacturer is even the slightest bit concerned about what their legacy will look like after just a few years they'd not even consider the use of fiberglass as a material for the co...

Re: Ochd or Sloths

The only real drawback to the Ochd is the fact that any patch to the CV control affects all of the outputs. If you want regular, predictable modulation, use the default triangle waves. If you want something irregular and less predictable, patch the tempo control (either from an external source or v...

Re: How many filters do you own/use per xU

when i add them up it comes out to be about a filter for ever 3u (114hp rows) for me (more if you count LPG's).
but im not huge into filters, besides filtering noise or a bass line, i tend to use more of them as ping percussion voices than audio filtering.

It’s all about flexible stereo filters for this purpose imo.
Stereo dipole is awesome for this.
I’m using it in this patch on chords from plaits.
Makes mono out of plaits so much more interesting.

Re: How do you feel mid-2020 about cv-equipped (and MIDI to an extent) instruments with your eurorack modules and approa

I like to keep my other gear separate from my modular, I only clock sync other gear (mostly digitakt and digitone) to the modular (via pams workout midi clock output). I know there’s cv to midi options and midi to cv (I actually have the ability to do both) but I’m just not interested in it. I have ...
