Experience with cheap router from china for panel making?

Hi, Does anyone have any experience with using a cheap router (like £150) for making panels? I figured you don't need a big surface area, and if you're panels are only 2mm aluminium you don't need a crazy powerful thing. As long as it's cheap and reasonably accurate I reckon it's better than getting...

Re: Kikad pcb layout to front panel

I was researching this recently too. Check out https://github.com/badgeek/svg2shenzhen

You can do designs in inkscape and import them to kicad

Re: Using SVG2shenzhen to make PCB panels

I'd be interested in you progress on this as a wee write up. I was messing around with kikad to make try and make some panels last night and it proved trickier than I thought - for eg. it SEEMS you can create a coper layer pad in any shape, but you need it connected to other stuff, and a net and oth...

If she had a windows laptop I’d say machine mikro- you can get it cheap (make sure they include licence for software) on eBay. For the chrome book I’m not too sure

Re: Portable Synth Suggestions

Is also consider: the op-z- small, battery, good sequencer, battery. On the downsides it has quite limited synths (they can sound good but not much in terms of sound design) Mc101- small, battery, sample and synth. Sounds food. Downsides: not fully editable synth so a bit hobbled. Mpc one- really po...

Re: New NANOLOOP Kickstarter

I’m pretty disappointed with what finally came in the mail. Guess that’s part of backing a kickstarter, but it’s really changed since I backed it. Do you mean the look of it? The original prototype has a plastic curved casing which looked even more fragile than this one. As to the leds- I wish they...

Re: New NANOLOOP Kickstarter

@EPTC thanks for the audio talk-through - these are great! Still waiting for mine, so appreciate the content. I hope the fragility of it doesn't become too big an issue, I guess we'll see. There was a great looking 3d printed fill in at the elektronauts forum: https://www.elektronauts.com/t/stand-al...

Re: Digital modular synth in a box?

Evolver does seem cool. Maybe I need to try and fit a screen to my axoloti or get some kind of midi controller with a screen that can display data. Hmm.

Re: Digital modular synth in a box?

Other options are the nord modular and axoloti, but they bot require patching on the computer, then playing on the device. You can get a SBC (Single Board Computer) or a Tiny PC about the size of a deck of cards and mount it directly to, or even inside, the Nord modular. Connect a display and a mou...

Re: Digital modular synth in a box?

Maybe not what you had in mind, but the DSI Pro 2 is nearly modular in its design and you can do some interesting note triggering things by routing its CV outputs to its own inputs. I've thought about the pro2 and 3. The one downside with them as far as I can: the modulation sequencer lanes sound g...

Re: Digital modular synth in a box?

Emu e4 sampler. Honestly, it’s outrageous what you can do with it utilizing the Cords function. Plus you can use any sort of source you want. I have a e64400 actually, but used the cords more for fancy modulation. Can you actually trigger notes as a destination? If so, I'll definitely boot it up to...

Re: Digital modular synth in a box?

Definitely good ideas, and maybe a dedicated computer setup is the way to go. I think a nice interface makes such a difference, especially when you look at computers all day and don't fancy looking at one again in the evening! Something even just with the axoloti's functionality and power, but that...

Check out Tiny LD from Gotharman! I have the LD3 and it exceeds all expectations. Tiny LD is the same internally with some UI differences. Don’t let the demos fool you. They are awesome but definitely not limited to flemming’s taste. Yea I've had a look at it before. Maybe need to deep-dive the man...

Re: Digital modular synth in a box?

I can't think of a good fit off the top of my head- and I wonder if it's related to how much hacking you're prepared to do. The Mod Duo X looks like a nice little hardware platform, otherwise, I'd be really tempted to consider a cluster of RPis running PD patches, in a box or something crazy. How a...

Digital modular synth in a box?

Hi Wondering what you guys would consider the closest thing to a digital 'modular synth in a box'? I have a kurzweil K2000 which has amazing modulation possibilities - the thing it doesn't quite do is go the whole way by having note events as a destination for modulation. You can kind of work around...

Re: QY700

I had one for a while but got rid of it because it was so big! It's really nice for midi though - you do need to set it up to your liking first to get a fast setup . I struggled with turning off sending programme change at the start of every pattern for a while - I just kept forgetting how to turn i...

Re: Glitch/Splice/Granular hardware recommendation needed!

If you’re struggling with overdriving inputs on stuff I would suggest you try solving that problem before buying new gear. Have you experimented with compression or limiting before hitting the gear you mentioned? This could tame it enough so you could use the rest of the stuff you already have.

Re: Gear suggestions: moving away from Elektron

Sounds like money isn’t a huge issue, but I would still consider the old Yamaha qy700- it’s a very powerful sequencer and may suit your needs. Apart from that my one observation is thst for any kind of looped sample you’ll want mono anyway as the two stereo channels won’t be zero crossing at the sam...

Re: NerdSEQ Portable

Thanks for your reply. I've been reading the nerdseq manual, and it sounds like it would be very interesting as a standalone for me. One more question if that's ok: On the current nerdseq there are samples, but you can just trigger and stop them. If this new device is more sample focused, will there...
