Re: Synth reductionism..or less is less
I applaud people who can command large systems. I don't think there's anyt intrinsic merit in whether one uses minimal equipment or very complex systems. And I think exploring different equipment potentials is a positive process depending on what our individual goals happen to be. Whatever, there's ...

Synth reductionism..or less is less
In the last 5 years I have gone from this..
Anyone else in a similar frame of mind?
to this..
And I find I am happier with this little synth. Anyone else in a similar frame of mind?

Re: best audio recorder right now?
Are you looking for smallish handhelds / field recorders specifically? I've been happy with my Tascams over the years. I am using a DR-44WL and it covers most of my needs. And I also have a Tascam 2488neo that works very well for multitracking and has some excellent fx and mastering tools, and cd bu...

Re: Monooprice 25 key midi controller
I've used a MadKatz Rockband 3, midi guitar controller for years now. Works real well. I keep a couple extras around in case one breaks. I use it in performance into a Yamaha QY70 most often.

Re: Behringer: practices, ethics, morals and legitimacy.
Gosh, this must be what happens when MBAs try to be musicians, or musicians try to be MBAs. I don't own any Behringer synth at the moment, but I have a $149.00 piece of software from Arturia that looks like a Buchla Music Easel, and sounds pretty close. This saved me the $4K for the real deal, which...

I have always found Reverb to be one of the fairer sites for selling and buying. You can ask whatever you want, doesn't mean you get it. I've never had a problem with them.

Re: Your "away from home" synth?
+1 on the Modal Skulpt. Amazing little synth, just about everything right there. And it is MPE capable. The Modal Craftsynth 2.0 is another great option and can fit anywhere. It is my only synth at the moment and hasn't bored me yet, keeps me up past my bedtime!

It's VA, but how about Modal Cobalt? Seems to have a lot of unique attributes. And it is blue!

Re: Monooprice 25 key midi controller
I understand, no offence meant. Actually I looked at mine, but I am not sure what I am seeing with the keys depressed. My guess is they are molded with plastic hinges. Definitely no Fatar kbd. Yes it would have been a nice surprise however. Even as a non keyboardist I enjoyed the GM's keyboard, noth...

Re: Monooprice 25 key midi controller
If I was an actual keyboardist I wouldn't likely be as happy with it. But in my case when I had my Grandmother I really felt like a great keyboard is wasted on me. I like the pitch and mod wheels and the ease of midi configuration and especially the price. But fully understand why it may not seem wo...

How does she operate the synth while laying on the floor? Or is it just sound from her laying there?

@wavejockey..first I've heard of that. And it doesn't sound credible. You have mild tinnitus and you're going through all that? No disrespect intended, but that sounds like quackery to me. If I am wrong, good luck with it. Where do they offer such treatment?

Monooprice 25 key midi controller
Just got a "Stage Right" 25key midi controller, and I really like it. Full size keys, 1 slider, 4 encoders with 2 modes (8 parameters), mod and pb wheels, velocity, 5pin din midi out, and usb midi .. $29.00 usd ! I think they sell a 49 key for $39.00. I have no affiliation with monoprice, just shari...

Re: Portable Synth Suggestions
Besides Skulpt there is Craftsynth 2.0. The UI take some getting used to, but are really laid out nicely then. I have both and like them more the more I use them. Skulpt has the more flexible and fun modulation matrix of the two, but Craftsynth 2.0 makes up for that with 40 wave types and 16 wave mo...

I have a Behringer MIC100 tube preamp that works pretty well. They're about $50.00 us.

Re: Cool Standalone Boxes - Like Benjolin or ?
Certainly less exotic than other suggestions, and digital to boot, but Modal Electronics Skulpt and Craftsynth 2.0 are tremendous little standalone boxes. The original Craftsynth kit also has a more steampunk like vibe. And Bastl Microgranny is a fun granular synth/sampler.

Re: MPE controllers
Lumi keys is so keyboardist oriented, what I mean is it seems directed at bringing almost guitar like techniques to the pianistic instrument. Which is cool, but as a guitarist myself I don't have much need for that. I think the same about the Osmose. My synth usage is less "musical" I guess. At any ...

Silicon knob rings on my Skulpt
No big deal, but I thought I'd share this little usability enhancement for my Modal Skulpt (and Craftsynth 2.0) panel controls. The interface design on both can be difficult to navigate especially the Skulpt so taking a cue from synths like the Moog Grandmother, Buchla music easel, and Arp Odyssey, ...
