so, you support the effort and research that goes into making something like this, haven't used one, but will publicly dismiss it because of the price. makes sense.

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?
TBH, one thing I really dislike in the noise-GENRE is overcompression. The 0.1bit dynamics in most noise releases is really boring. Metzbow et. al. made the lack of dynamics work in the 90's to 00's, in a surprising way, but these days IMHO, having everything FULL BLAST is a cliche. It can suite so...

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?
I find 99% of the music made with synthesizers/modular gear boring as fuck, but I don't go into a thread called "What do you find appealing about techno/ambient/EDM etc..." and talk about why I think it's boring garbage. I keep that opinion to myself, because in said hypothetical thread, that's wha...

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?
Anyway, getting this discussion back to noise, are any of you familiar with Himukalt? I love how dynamic her work is. The subdued moments make the bursts of intensity stand out in a way that I love. The vocal processing is also particularly interesting and central to her aesthetic. Probably my favo...

i don't listen to enough music these days. i think i'll spend a little time now and listen a bit, starting with Himukalt above (had time to listen to a couple of minutes earlier, and very much liked)

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?
I love noise and texture and intensity, but only used alongside / in relation to more traditional music. It can definitely add to a track in terms of sound design but if the track is *nothing but* seemingly unstructured noise? Nah. Not for me. It needs to have some sort of relatively easily percept...

of course it is.NARC NOISE wrote: ↑Mon Feb 15, 2021 1:31 pmConnecting recognition to success or validity seems pretty empty to me.
He is trolling. It's easy to use that as a criticism in the place of a real argument, but in this case I think that it is obviously true.

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?
I think if it has real value it should be robust enough to deal with a couple of dismissive comments. Outside of the Fifties and Sixties avant-garde, how many “noise artists” have ever achieved recognition outside of a tiny audience of cassette music collectors? It all seems very old fashioned and ...

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?
I mean, I guess I'm referring to the tension between the notion that "one must learn the rules in order to break them" and feeling an obligation to at least try to learn those rules despite not having any natural inclination, and the fact that this self evolution led me to realize that, in fact, th...

urgh - my apologies. the graphics for my online items are now HUGE. Not sure why an attempted edit on the links has made it so. If I can't fix it, i will delete the links. Help! (edit - i removed the links to my music because i couldn't figure out how not to display huge graphics for each. if anyone...

"Also, I finally got around to listening to stuff on Ancient Eyeball Recipe's Soundcloud page. I listened to 5-6 clips on there in their entirety and I wouldn't call any of it music. It's in the audio spectrum... and that's about it. If people like listening to that stuff, more power to them."

Re: Sixty four pixel Noodlebox, 4x cv/gate/midi sequencer
i've now had a few hours to spend on this thing, and i have to confess that I really LIKE it. As far as new sequencers (damn, i just really like experimenting with them), i have picked up a 0-ctrl and this recently. The 0-ctrl can be fun and useful, but i don't like it as much as I do the noodlebox....
