01IMGP3726.jpg A desktop drum synth consisting of the "Um-Tss" which was presented in this forum a while ago (4 years or so, actually), 3 SynTom II and 2 SynBal boards. All outputs are internally routed to a simple stereo mixer (modified version of an old MFOS design) which allows stereo panning. T...

Re: Post pics of your DIY setup!
Moved my 5u banana modular from a wood case to a rack as part of a studio re-org. Upside is i have a bit of empty space to fill now. Had to drill 264 tapped holes to create the mounting rails. In retrospect i should have followed conventions a bit more closely so i could use off-the-shelf stuff. lu...

Re: DJ Thomas White Quad Lo Pass Gate
ensure you trim off all those component legs under the pcb - almost looks like one is shorting to a pin from the picture your wire connection to some of the pots looks liable to short as well - from the picture anyway hard to see what your wiring is doing from the photos - in most cases wiring will ...

Re: Creating a Syncussion sy-1 voice in modular
They are overrated if u use a modular but they are one of the most fun drum synths ive used for jamming. They sound great too. I pair mine to my 606 and a couple of effects and it is great time. Here are the modes A VCO 1 only B VCO 1 modulates VCO 2 frequency, the latter routed to the VCF C Both VC...

Re: ebay sellers no longer shipping to Canada?
I just had to refund someone from canada for a ‘missing parcel’ to canada. Couldnt really be bothered standing my ground on the shipping issues. Have since pulled all international shipping options, just isn’t worth it for the seller.

Hey I about to do the same thing I guess the 18vac vs 16vac thing is probably due to it being easier to source 9-0-9 torroids than 8-0-8. Since there is no public schematic or service manual available for the unit it is a bit of a guessing game, but I wouldn't think extra current wouldn't be an issu...

That’s what I said before. We talk always about business cases, when we talk about sales. Then there’s to be identified the market and calculated the demand. A “product” must be designed in a market direction - like mass market is Eurorack. Then we talk about the estimated RRP, a challenge between ...

The Hugh Le Caine Incident. A story about my friend Mike by Sandy. Preamble – a brief history. I first met Mike on the long gone modularsynth.net forum, a small but informative place where many of the people who would go on to be early members here would hang out. One day his signature included a “...

An obvious fail point is the smd trasistors and i found you can’t tell if they are soldered properly by looking at them. You are best using your multimeter and testing continuity from the pins on the smd transisters to the nearest connected pad. It takes a bit of reverse engineering. Also check for ...

Hi everyone, This will probably be my first of many requests for help troubleshooting this. I've been poking at it here and there without much success so I decided to do a more systematic approach reviewing each section one by one. In the speech input section I input a sine wave and noticed an osci...

The speech input amp has a speech output. You can use this as a test point for your mic. I have been testing by playing podcasts into it. It works well. The synthesis compounder has a synthdry output as well. Also you may want to check your replacement signal switches are wired up correctly. You don...

Nice work, noticed your photos in the other thread. Post them here too. I have mine running from a half wave rectified psu using 15vac wall wort and it runs okay. It gets a bit warm but I have left it on and haven't had any dramas. What is your measured current draw? I think I used shielded cable wi...

Finally got this thing together. I still need to order the LED's but it's working despite some setbacks from parts issues! I'll upload a video once I get the LED's in. https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/userpix2/6897_fs1a_top_resize_2_1.jpg https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/userpix2/6897_fs1a_resize...

Also it is probably worth mentioning that in the video I am using a podcast from an ipod for the speech input and the audio would be heavily compressed. The synth input is from a CGS VCO which I built into the unit and it runs pretty hot i.e. modular level 10vpp. I just played with the vocoder using...
