Re: How to... Gate!

If you don’t need the gates to be “square” (many things that have a gate input will threshold it for you) you can just use maths ch 1 or 4 output, set Rise very fast, put a random S&H voltage into Fall, and trigger Maths and the S&H from a random trigger source.

Re: Chord oscillator for pad purposes

You might consider going CV->MIDI with the Accord Melisma. See the lengthy thread for discussion. You can control the chords and voicings with CV and gates in a pretty natural way, as well as adding a random-but-in-tune bass/melody line. Not exactly what you were asking for, but for pads why not use...

For a short-term solution you can just mount them sideways using one of these:

Re: How did you pick your sequencer?

The great and terrible thing about sequencers is that there are so many takes on what they even are. It’s really hard to compare apples to apple s because no two sequencers attack the concept the same way. I think in general it’s a mistake to think of having just one sequencer in a system. Much bett...

A batch of FX Aid on its way to retail

A batch of Natural Gate in final assembly for shipping this month

All it would take is like a plague or something and I would think these were signs of the End Times

I have and love the Doepfer SEM filter, very recommended.

Consider the Filter 8. It has a ton of versatility with some unique filter curves, strike input, LFO modes, v/oct tracking. Lots of self patching potential. And sounds great.

Re: Best logic modules?

Worth remembering that in many cases you can cheap out with what you have on hand: a VCA is an AND operation (multiplication) and a unity mixer is an OR (addition). This isn't exactly the same as the OR=max, AND=min logic that most of the dedicated logic modules use but it can be useful if you are d...

Re: diy module - afraid to plug it in

I would always power up any newly-built project on its own power supply for the first time. If it powers up properly on a power supply by itself, passes all your basic tests for functionality, and doesn't leak magic smoke or get hot then you can give it a try in the full box. Too many other variable...

Re: How bad is it to go a tad over the max mA?

The mA specs for modules as provided by manufacturers or ModularGrid come from a variety of methodologies and aren’t always apples to apples; the rating for the power supply may or may not have intentional or unintentional differences in capacity to its rating; behavior at startup, warmup, steady st...

Re: Voltage Block Alternative

I found just Tetrapad by itself well worth the HP in a small system; it really enables structure (in voltage mode) by setting up a panel of 8 “scenes” X 8 CVs in a way that’s hard to replicate otherwise. I don’t have Tete but I understand it really takes it to the next level.

Re: NerdSeq vs ER-101 for live improvisation

(since I don’t really use the sample tracks much anyways) You can load a sample of a one-shot pulse and use those sample tracks as extra trigger-only sequencer tracks for percussion :) I don’t have a lot to add to the ER-101/102 vs Nerdseq comparison since I just have the Nerdseq but I would say it...

There's a new update on the Rabid Elephant page:

Looks like there's at least a line of sight to resuming the build of this run, if the timings in the article work out maybe August or so?

Re: puzzling out a solution w/ Magneto modulation?

Or even better just use maths... try a slow attack on one channel and subtract that signal from the gate, it will give a funky shaped pulse which you can adjust by ear to trigger magneto as desired.

Re: puzzling out a solution w/ Magneto modulation?

You can do this with a delay and maths. Delay the gate for the desired length of the trigger, 100% wet output. run the original And delayed into 2 channels of maths and subtract the delayed from original. You’ll get a positive pulse when the gate goes high and a negative pulse when it goes low but M...

Re: Introducing the Accord Melisma Chord Module!

Thanks for the tips! The gesture control really does look cool. I am continuing to experiment and have gotten some really nice stuff out using LHAND and a LFO or sequenced EXPAND input. Also some very jazzy feels when doing a rhythmic LFO into SPREAD so that it alternates between comping and arp-mel...

Re: Realistic piano sound? Is it possible?

There are very good algorithmic pianos that don’t use samples. I like Pianoteq; it’s good enough that it makes me want to be a better piano player ;) but as the SoS article says there are loads of moving parts and it doesn’t seem fun or feasible to me to try to build it from scratch. Just watch a go...

Re: Expressive keyboard for rack control: QuNexus, Microfreak, or something else?

I bought a QuNexus for use as a CV keyboard, and it was spotty as others have said. Pitch calibration was unreliable. I have since switched to using it as a MIDI keyboard and then converting to CV on laptop and going out via ES-8. The QuNexus is much better that way. The main problem I have with it ...

1 have 4 Bricks Rook and it sounds perfect for what you are asking. Very focused on live interaction and tapping your rhythms, lots of support for fills and saving preset patterns before hand, nice features like muting modes per channel etc. I think there are a few bugs in it TBH, sometimes on power...
