Re: Looking for unusal machines, like Folktek Resonant Garden

Childrens's toys, bits of metal, springs, anything that can be bowed, stroked, or stuck for sound. I once used an oven rack- it sounded amazing. One suggestion is to get some contact mics and a cheap hollow-core door from Home Depot or The Rebuilding Center on Mississippi Ave since you are in PDX. ...

Re: Looking for unusal machines, like Folktek Resonant Garden

Most of what the Apprehension Engine does have built myself over the years in a variety of instruments for my own amusement. I also did sound for theatre and film and acquired all sorts of interesting sound-producing devices. Childrens's toys, bits of metal, springs, anything that can be bowed, stro...

Very cool! not sure how this slipped under my Radar. Would be VERY nice to see some distribution in the US. I can have it shipped but have no idea what to expect in regards to tariffs, etc.

Re: Livewire AFG v1 tracking

I have never had a problem with my v1, but I have also never set out to test it across 5 octaves. V1's are built with 5% resistors and tempco's glued to matched transistors with heat sink compound. That kind of design is inherently not as stable as many modern VCO's, but it was also the standard for...

Apart from this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NChqEEz31eE Otherwise, I don't have the CD liner notes handy but her Obsolete Systems album has some very sonically similar material in there. Absolutely incredible stuff. OK, well, that makes sense based on the source of this. At least somebody did ...

Re: What am I looking for in a tape cassette recorder?

I picked up a non-working Tascam 122 off E-Bay a couple of years ago and had the belts replaced (almost always the problem - they basically melt after 30 years or so) and the whole thing calibrated - I have a basically new unit for $250. I picked Tascam because they are still in business, so replace...

Re: New poly synth/synth company - ASM Hydrasynth

Anyone else having trouble installing the O.S. 1.3 Update? I just get " Open USB Fail " when I try to run the updater app. The Patch Manager app doesn't have any trouble seeing the Hydrasynth, and I have already sucked my custom patches into my PC so I doubt it's my USB connection. Sent a note to A...

Re: Selecting a grand piano

Some of my advice has already been posted, but as I own two pianos and have been playing all my life, here's what I have learned: 1) Look for pianos used, not too old (one of mine is 100 years old, and there are intractable problems that will never be worth solving). Many people have Grand Pianos th...

The E520 Hyperion effects processor has this effect in it.
And it's fantastic! easily the best "Tape Saturation/Decay/Degradation" modelling I have ever laid my hands on. If you want "Heavenly Music Corporation" or "Swastika Girls", nothing does it better.

I have what appears to be a bug - would like to hear from other owners. I cannot turn off the reverb for any existing patch. I can set the mix to 0% all day, but the reverb is still there, no matter what I do with settings, or how I move the mix control. If I INIT a patch from scratch, it works fin...

This one is worth getting even if using it only as a midi controller... I dunno, that's what I preordered the Osmose for. Was hoping this would be enjoyable but I think I'm going to snag $69 Arturia Pigments 2 instead to hold me over... I really wanted to love the Hydra but it seems to be love it o...

Everybody's seems to have arrived at the same time. Having a blast with mine - I'll try to get something up here shortly. I will register one (minor) complaint: the output level varies a LOT when you switch between 1, 3 and 5 voices. I know this is difficult in software, but they seem to have gone a...

After much delay, I got mine today at Control Voltage. The main reason was that I wanted to add Drums to my setup, and even though there are many dedicated drum modules, this seemed like the best way to go for maximum flexibility, and thinking of it as a drum machine avoids a number of the issues po...
