Re: Polyend Tracker

I had no experience with trackers and I took to it instantly, it's a lot easier to keep track of what's going on within your music than with step sequencers where you just have page after page of 16 steps. Yep, I'll echo this. I had a few false starts with Renoise but no other Tracker experience. I...

Re: Frap Tools Brenso

I don’t have a complex oscialltor in Euro and was going to get the Furthrrr Generator but am waiting for this to come out first. Looking forward to hearing some user demos once it’s released and then I’ll decide which one. Or both? I love that yellow panel. If you get the Brenso and decide you want...

Weirdly I can't find a list of the step FX.
The FAQ has a list, under the question "What are the available step FX for the Tracker?"

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

Disagreed--let's dig up Tarkovsky, Vertov, Artemyev, Bulgakov, and the rest and ask them whether they felt capitalist pressure was a major driving force in their creative processes. Capitalist, socialist, feudalist, tribalist, whatever--I think we have yet to see a socio-economic system in which th...

Re: Is Eurorack just extreme consumerism?

I would think it hardly needs saying, but the drive to be a "producer" - to produce, to generate a product, to be productive - is inherently a capitalist drive and a capitalist pressure foisted upon us. So it's incoherent for me to hear that unless you're generating a finished product for others to ...

Re: Zoia is now modular Euroburo

Anyone heard any news on this? From a recent interview (with Sonic State, I believe?), they said they've had delays due to Covid-19, so the June expected release date will likely get pushed back. They promised it would come "by the end of the year", but there's nothing more concrete than that unfor...

Re: Operation Manual Pics for VCV Rack

These are fantastic, thank you! If you're taking requests, I'd love one for Random Sampler (Marbles), which is something I use in both software and hardware but still need a good reference to make the most use of.

Re: Can either the Qu-bit Nebulae v2 or Make Noise Morphagene do live sound processing?

The term you're looking for might be "sound on sound". Or alternately, "circular recording". In any case, Morphagene and Nebulae v2 both do it. My main use for the Nebulae v2 is live processing, layering, and manipulation of incoming sound, not working with pre-recorded clips. It might take a while ...

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?

Oh also, this is something I would consider pushing back against mentally: "I'm referring to Noise with (in my opinion) absolutely no rhythm or song structure" Listen for the (phantom) rhythms, and try to find the structure. They're often buried or nearly imperceptible, but that doesn't mean they're...

Re: What is it about the musical genre "noise" that you find appealing?

For my part, I really appreciate noise as music, and while the performance art aspects are usually engaging when seeing it live, they're not the reason I love noise. Similar thing to me loving rock music as music, and seeing a really energetic and crazy live show is a big bonus but isn't the reason ...

Re: Do any modules or synths accept USB midi direclty (powered)?

If you already have some sort of MIDI to CV solution, Endorphin.es' Shuttle Mate is a USB MIDI host that will convert to DIN MIDI. Rackable, can be had used for around $100.

I just picked up a used Phonogene last week for $210 USD. Saw another one going for $220. If you can find it at prices like that, it's practically a no-brainer. So far I've used it almost exclusively for its sound-on-sound / "broken echo" features, which are incredible. And the lo-fi sound quality s...

Fantastic resource, thanks! Quick update: Hyrlo mk2 can have 0-6 mono inputs, not just 0-3 (toggled via switch on the back). Recently picked one up secondhand, and it hits most of what I want in an affordable AC audio mixer: 4hp, 0-6 mono or 0-3 stereo, chainable without patching, <$100 new, looks p...

Reach out to the qu-bit crew and let them know what happened. They might be able to fix at a fair price. Update: I went ahead and did just this. I mailed them the module to take a look at, and shortly after they sent me word that they'll be shipping me a new replacement Nebulae. No mention of price...

Hmmm... well I cut off that keyed portion and plugged it in... I'm getting the light hiss that indicates there's audio coming through the module, but there are no lights or sounds. Sounds like I fried it in my initial plugging? I'm gonna have to test it out on a friend's modular soon, to make sure. ...

Baby's first modular... power issues

OK, so just decided to go modular and started it out with some craigslist purchases - a Monorocket 6U 2x104hp case, and a Qu-Bit Nebulae module (yes, I know this is bizarre for a starting module, I'll be making more purchases shortly.) So I've got a powered case, a module, and a ribbon cable. The ca...

Good call on the 2x104hp case. Those 3-tier Moog cases look cool, but they are not nearly enough!
