I have a Tascam 122 mkIII that I'm very happy with. Rack mountable too.

Not sure what price they go for these days, but they used to be in every studio in the 90's, so there should be a few of them around.

Anyway, highly recommended.

Wow, some impressive boards in this thread. So, after about 25 years of fucking around, it's finally here. My first pedalboard, whoopee! https://www.muffwiggler.com/forum/userpix2/12549_pedalboard2017_1.jpg Simple, compact and extremely effective: fuzz - drive - ring mod - phaser - delay - tuner I p...

The STS tape simulator that tIB mentioned, might me worth looking at. You will not get it to pump exactly, but it would give you saturation/compression/eq-type stuff, in one box. Easy to recall. Good price too. I'de been eyeing that one for years, until I spent my all money (and then some) on some v...

I sold my (nice!) SSL clone when I picked up the Bugbrand compressor proto- much preferred Tom's take on it even at first incarnation. That (the final version bugbrand compressor) would be my recommendation for very good master bus compressor at as low a price as you will get that good! Interesting...

If you search for "ssl compressor clone", something will come up. I think most of them are based on the G4000. Some have mods like wet/dry blend and sidechain filters, like the Bugbrand Compressor, but since they are all DIY, they will probably all sound a bit different. I have seen them on eBay fro...

Apologies in advance for the GSlutty comment, but in my experience most cheap compressors don't really cut it for 2buss work. Save your money and get something nice, you will not regret it. Also, think about adding a stereo eq to the chain, if you want some colours for your buss. It is not going to ...

Great thread. Lots of good information here. As has been said already, mixing is all about arranging, so it helps a lot to have a clear vision for your song before you even start recording. Instead of recording a bunch of stuff and trying to figure it all out later, ask yourself WHY are you adding t...

Check out this thread: https://www.gearslutz.com/board/high-end/29818-girls-just-wanna-have-fun.html There is a detailed description by will wittman who produced that record. Apparently it is a room mic that is heavily compressed, then gated by the snare close mic. There is also a distorted handclap...

Compared to the price of something like a working Lexicon Model 200, which is what I have been lusting for, 460€ plus VAT isn't bad at all.
