Re: VERBOS ELECTRONICS
have there been many changes to the DFP filter? I recently saw a secondhand one advertised as being different from the later revisions as it uses a vactrol. It’s likely that vactrols have been phased out of the DFP. The Complex Osc no longer has vactrols and the ATC redesign removed vactrols. There...

Re: Entering notes into 250e from 218e?
I don’t have either of these modules yet, but I’m curious to know if notes can be input to the stages of the 250e via the 218e. It depends on what you mean by this. The 250e cannot record the output of the 218e if that is what you mean, nor can the output of the 218e be used to set the CV level for...

Check that all of the ribbon cables are properly seated. I had a similar problem and only had to reseat one of the ribbon cables.

Re: Anyone successfully making impulse responses from distortion pedals?
I don’t quite understand the distinction. With guitar cabinets impulses you are capturing the harmonic distortion imposed on the guitar signal by the cabinet, speakers, and microphone used to capture the impulse. Isn’t that distortion also nonlinear? You're not capturing the harmonic distortion, ju...

Re: 281r vs 284r Comparisons
Envelope delay is unique to the 284. I don’t think that is available on any other Buchla module, though you can achieve the same result pairing a 250e or 251e with a 281/281e. Another unique feature of the 284 is that the single CV input scales each envelope segment by the same amount so that the ov...

Re: Buchla 291e - secrets?
In regard to question 2, you can definitely smooth morph between internal sequencer stages using external control voltages or pulses applied to the sequencer. I don’t have my 291e in front of me, but there are several different modes for interacting with the 291e. Each stage can be set to its own mo...

Re: a 275e would be good :)
Now, I see no sense in a Reverb module as you can have very nice IR reverbs on you computer. Sure, if reverb is only used for room/hall/ambience, why waste the cabinet space on it? On the other hand, modular format reverbs (and efx) do open up all manner of non-obvious and experimental options. I c...

Re: Anyone successfully making impulse responses from distortion pedals?
I believe the issue is that an impulse response can be used to recreate a a process that is linear time-invariant, but distortion is a non-linear effect, as Tim_mop1 mentioned. I don’t quite understand the distinction. With guitar cabinets impulses you are capturing the harmonic distortion imposed ...

'thunderbolt' is old technology - see usb-c - which is the replacement - ie es9 The thunderbolt 3 protocol uses the same physical connector as USB-C, but the thunderbolt 3 protocol still offers more throughput than the fastest USB protocol. What is confusing is that some PC’s that have USB-C ports ...

Anyone successfully making impulse responses from distortion pedals?
I have an old pro co Rat pedal and tried to make an IR of it using the same technique used to make guitar cabinet responses. It didn’t turn out how I expected, so I’m curious if anyone else has tried this with any success? I used the quick white noise burst method by the way. Maybe the sine sweep me...

This extensive modular synthesis handbook was written for the Nord modular, but you can apply these concepts to any modular.

Re: 1010 Music Bitbox - Sampler/Looper
Does anyone know if BB can do that? It's basically like sweeping the pitch knob on an old Akai, makes the sound kind of choke out, stutter and get weird artifacts. I don’t know what the Akai pitch modulation sounds like, but the BitBox does support pitch modulation with an external control voltage....

And if you consider that principle, doing the opposite of what a module is supposed to do is in fact being experimental with that same module since you're not following what was meant to do. (In this case being experimental :hmm: ) I don’t know if I agree. Going against west coast design philosophy...

That's true! What would be cool is a booklet showing fader positions for mimicing common instruments and sounds (reed, flute, strings, etc.) Someone please do this. I don’t want to just shoot down your idea, but it is in conflict with the west coast design principles behind the Verbos line. West co...

Re: 256e questions
If the goal is to switch between pulse streams of different rates you can use the 256e to switch/crossfade between cycling AD envelopes of different rates then send the output of the 256e to the slew processors on the 257e to extract pulses from those envelopes.
