there's plenty of weak analogs even today. but the evolver is not one of those. for a stupidly tiny little box, it screams analog beefiness.

one thing that zero didnt mention is that you can step through the digital waveforms just like a miniwave. i also love the feedback and delay on mine. the desktop is my ultimate portable synth. its outputs are hot enough to drive headphones too.

i dont know if i would have had the patience to program the evolver, until i got into modular and relearned synthesis again. now i can really appreciate all the features in the evolver, and the tonal quality.

i think the evolver would be my analog desert island synth. if i had to run out of my burning house with only a backpack, id take the evolver and some headphones. and some fresh underwear and a toothbrush. a pillow would be good too.

I've owned the desktop and mono keyboard versions of the Evolver. I think if you could have ONLY ONE monosynth, you'd be hard pressed to find a better all -around, does everything and then some, supreme value for your dollar synth than the MEK. It can do everything, it can cut like a knife through the densest mix, and with very little effort it will drag you off into usable, musical, freaky noise nirvana. Plus it's tiny and lightweight. I had issues with the desktop programming matrix (sold my Pulse for the same reason), but the MEK's knobtastic interface solved that one; there's very little not to like.

However, over here in reality, I'm a gear whore with multiple monosynths grin

So I swapped both mono Evolvers and some cash (hmmm, probably from selling my redundant Qrack IIRC) for a Voyager. Someday I'll have enough space, power, mixer inputs, and cash in hand to get another MEK.

The one thing that put me off the Evolver was that the analog oscillators were hardwired to the left and right outputs, so you could pan them internally and have a mono output 2 analog OSC patch (or even a 4 OSC mono output patch, as the digital OSCs ad the same limitation).

Did this ever get changed? A firmware update or anything?

I love my Evolvers. I have the Desktop and the PEK. It's a bit odd though. I use each of them completely different. I never sequence with the PEK and never use a keyboard with the desktop. That seems terribly obvious at first, but I also make totally different sounds, again, related to how I use them. The funny thing is that I prefer the desktop to the PEK. I don't mind the interface at all. That matrix is very friendly. I can make such strange sounds with it. I don't have any Evolver solo stuff handy though. The only trouble I have with them both, but more with the PEK is that they are hard to fit in a mix. The desktop is the mix, it can completely take over, and the sounds from the PEK are too cutting or overbearing or something. It probably boils down to lack of skill somewhere, but I don't have that problem with anything else. I could never get rid of either though.

The perfect one for me would be a polyevolver with a MEK sized keyboard. I'm not a fan of big keyboards usually.

These demos sound much nicer than the presets I've heard. I've wanted to like this synth since the beginning but every time I played with it, it did nothing for me. I know a guy who has bought it and sold it twice. I think I'll save my money for the MOTM digital stuff coming later this year.

Wow..... I finally got around to sitting down and listening to all of these demo's.... I have to get me one of these damn things! lol. I think this baby..... ran midi out into my doepfer midi/cv box... clock gate to my sequential switch.... will be INSANE!!!! Run each channel out thru the modulars filters and waveshapers....MMMMM......... lol.

yeah, love my evolver desktop. had it for a few years now but am only just starting to think of getting the sound tower editor for it.

Does anyone here use it? The main thing I would like to know is whether or not it has an apreggiator function as this isn't included with the synth itself.

i almost entirely made the Music for Massacres album with the PEK + Voyager, imo one of the few interesting synths of the last decade.

It is the best mainstream stock ambient machines (as in, not DIY or modular) one can buy, it has such a good eerie sound inside....instant drone machine.

evolver + moog = win, they fit perfectlty next to each other in a mix
